Guest Speaker: Marjie Ehry

In the mid sixty's Marjie started helping Oliver Petty, ​of Albany, set up the OSBA honey exhibit at the Oregon State Fair. The OSBA booth had always been unmanned, but they soon realized people wanted to see the winning honey and had many questions concerning beekeeping and the honey bee itself. That's when the booth became participatory. Marjie found a few local beekeepers interested in helping in the booth for rest of the week. The following year the state fair required it be manned and 50 years later interest in beekeeping continues to grow! Today, our display is the largest educational attraction at the state fair.

Over the years finding a judge and/or judging entries has become part of the job. Marjie has been judging honey since the mid-1970's. She will speak on beekeeping in Oregon history, preparing honey for market, how to present your products from the hive for competition, as well as tips for winning with your honey!

For over fifty years Alan and Marjie Ehry, as commercial beekeepers, were involved in the Oregon State Beekeepers Assoc. and organizations stressing the value of beekeeping.
