For future nuc purchases, new bee lines

Just a heads up for newer genetic bee lines that may be advertised in the future by nuc sellers.  These folks may be charging a premium price for these genetic strains, but in the long run, they may be superior due to some mite resistance.  Would be fun to try someday.  The newer lines are based on genomic studies to develop genetic and behavioral resistance (hygenic bees) to Varroa.  Attached are two articles describing the "Pol-line" and the "Hilo" lines.  They are open sourced on Google Scholar or I can attach in an email for those interested.

    1.  Selection of VSH-derived Pol-line honey bees and evaluation of their Varroa-resistance characteristics.  Danka, RG, et al. Apidologie (2016) 47:483-490.

    2.  A derived honey bee stock confers resistance to Varroa destructor and associated viral transmission.  O'Shea-Wheller, T.A., et al (2022) www.nature.com/scientificreports
