I just read an interesting article in American Bee Journals May issue about drones and varroa mites. Contrary to what we know the author, Zac Lamas PH.D, has found that varroa prefer to stay with drones instead of the nurse bees during the spring. The article goes on to say that they do their alcohol wash as usual but also remove 40 drone from frames and test them to estimate your varroa load. Very interesting
