Swaring. The bane of my beekeeping experience!

One of my over-wintered hives was so strong that I split it the last week of April.  A few days later, I pulled another 4 frames from it to add to a weak hive that also over-wintered, but poorly.

Well, yesterday the strong hive swarmed, in spite of having it split and frames moved to another hive a month ago.

The good news is that I caught it an hour later.  But.....

It was a difficult swarm to catch as it was spread out over an arbor with no real cluster.  It was difficult to tell where the queen was.  After having moved half of the bees into a box, it was obvious I had not yet gotten the queen.  So, I used the new vacuum that was donated to us.  It was amazingly easy and gentle on the bees.  I captured the queen and 90% of the bees and I dumped them into their permanent home, and today all is good.

The vacuum has a battery that lasts 6 hours or more, and is lite-weight and very simple to use.  It even has back pack straps so you can work it without a lot of hassle.  The straps were too small for my largeness however.  Awesomeness.
