    Michael

Please provide us the details of his regime for mite control.  Surely we could all benefit from knowing what his regime is and how we could apply it to our own hives.

I agree with you that mite control is essential, however, it seems you are assuming I was not militant about my mite control with my previous nucs.  This is not the case.  I simply used some different products.  I think the fact that the nucs I did use were raised on the coast AND that the queens in these nucs were overwintered, and that may have made the difference.  Please understand I am not trying to undermine the operations of the club of which I have spent many years supporting.  I am only trying to help my co-beekeepers.  I also understand that my two hives are a very small sample size to come to any defining conclusions.

Clearly the operative phrase is “militant about mite control” and that you “followed his regime for mite control”

That is exactly what we want everyone to learn. Mite control or lack thereof is the key to life or death with our bees irrespective of where you get your NUCs.

if you were to be lazy about mite control with his NUCs they would not survive, guaranteed.

Hi, I have been a member of this club since back in the day when there were maybe 20 of us, total.  I have had only one nuc survive the winter in the last 10 years. I found a man in Gearhart (the climate there is more similar to my own outside Nehalem) from whom I bought my nucs this past year.  His name is Jerry Sisseck and he is militant about mite control.  All of his queens are overwintered before he puts them up for sale.  I bought 2 nucs from him last spring, followed his regime for mite control, and both hives are still going strong.  If interested you can contact him: 503 440 4587.
